Why

I am a parent of four children, none of whom live near efficient or affordable transportation to their schools.  I can't be the only parent or care giver struggling with this.  So these are my reasons for starting the School Rides Blog, if you agree with any or all of these then I welcome you to join:

1.  Safety: my primary school age child has to cross a very busy street that has no cross walks or traffic lights.  My high school age daughter has to stand alone in a remote area waiting for a public bus.  My intermediate age son has a 25 minute walk home alone.

2.  Convenience: we don't own a car yet, and with or without a car, we are still at work when our children get out of school.  When we do get a car scheduling four kids to get to three different schools every morning is going to be tough.

3.  Cost: the cost for two of my children to ride buses each day costs over $70 dollars a week [that's ridiculous].  When I do get a car, driving will still cost time and take a lot of petrol.

4.  Environment: everyone knows less cars or cars making less trips is much better for the environment.  This effort causes less pollution, uses less fossil fuels, and decreases road maintenance costs.

5.  Congestion: if more parents used ride-share [carpools] the pick up and drop areas near schools would be less congested and the whole process would be safer and easier for everyone.
